1974: The Zygmonts purchased the café because they wanted to work as a family. They renamed it the “Homestead”.
This is when most of the major changes were done. They put on a new kitchen, made a larger bar and relocated it into the ballroom, they put a furnace in, and they built a room upstairs for their son and daughter, Glenn and LeeAnn, for studying. They put a pool table in where the bar used to be.
At this time, business was good and the people were friendly. The town supported the business. Their food business grew largely because they were the first to offer pizzas and homemade French fries. You can see their menu here.
Mr. Zygmont decided to sell the business when the right offer came along and said “the business was rewarding but it was time consuming”. It was time to move to their next venture.
1980: Mr. Packarde purchased the business.
